Afghanistan war opponents rally in Los Angeles (AP)

LOS ANGELES ? Fourteen peace activists were arrested Friday for blocking traffic after a downtown rally that marked the 10th anniversary of the start of the war in Afghanistan with a call for an end to the conflict.

The 14 were among about 100 people who gathered at a church for a prayer service and then marched to a civic center federal building.

The civil disobedience was planned and the arrests were made without incident.

Andy Griggs, program director for Interfaith Communities United For Justice and Peace, said the group is committed to nonviolence.

Among those who attended the rally was actor Mike Farrell, who said he believes the war has wasted billions of dollars without significantly affecting terrorism. Farrell also said he's disappointed that President Barack Obama, a Nobel Peace Prize winner, has continued the war.
