(Bronx, New York) ? The College Board, a leading education nonprofit organization, is taking its college planning expertise and resources on the road through a series of bilingual town hall conferences in select cities across the country. Hostos Community College of The City University of New York has teamed up with the College Board to bring this town hall? called Destino Universidad ? to the South Bronx on Thursday, May 24, 2012. The town hall will feature interactive panel discussions and workshops designed to provide college planning guidance on financial aid, admission procedures and course planning with sessions held in both English and Spanish.

?As an organization created to promote access and equity in higher education, the College Board is uniquely positioned to guide Latino families on the road to college,? said Peter Negroni, senior vice president at the College Board. ?As the number of Latino students aspiring to college continues to increase, we are committed to ensuring that these students have access to the resources and support that will ensure a successful transition to college.?

Destino Universidad is a collaborative effort among universities, colleges, school districts, community-based organizations and media outlets to provide Latino families with college planning resources and promote a college-going culture. Through its ?Es el momento? campaign, Univisi?n has mobilized its affiliates to support and promote the tour.

The event will include panel discussions featuring local educators and College Board members, followed by workshops that will guide families in the following areas:

• Researching and applying for financial aid and scholarships
• Applying to college and learning how students can stand out in a competitive admission environment
• Maximizing high school course work to be prepared for college success
• Accessing free, online resources to support college planning

Dr. F?lix V. Matos Rodr?guez, President of Hostos Community College in the South Bronx, is aware that many Latino parents are perplexed by the challenge of sending their sons and daughters to college: ?Destino Universidad provides a valuable service by making Latino families aware of many higher education opportunities that are available to their children.? We must support the education of our youth to ensure that future generations of Latinos are prepared to succeed in our society.?
