WASHINGTON (AP) - David Wright homered twice and had five RBIs and R.A. Dickey won his league-leading 13th game and the New York Mets broke a six-game losing streak with a 9-5 win over the Washington Nationals on Thursday.
Dickey (13-1) pitched 7 1-3 innings to break a streak of rare ineffectiveness this season. After throwing consecutive one-hitters last month, Dickey had won just one of four starts - getting no-decisions in three of them. In his past two, he gave up five runs in each game.
Against Washington, he gave up four runs - three earned - and 10 hits. He walked one and struck out five. Dickey has won 11 straight decisions.
The Nationals' Ryan Zimmerman hit a first-inning home run, his 11th, and by the time Washington scored again, the Mets had an eight-run lead.
Wright hit a two-run shot in the first - his 13th off Gio Gonzalez (12-5), who was rocked for six runs in 3 1-3 innings - his shortest start of the season.
Wright's second home run, his 14th, a three-run blast, came in the fourth off Craig Stammen. He also homered in his last at-bat in Wednesday night's game.
Ike Davis homered in the second and had an RBI single in the third and Ruben Tejada had two hits and an RBI for the Mets.
Gonzalez allowed six runs and six hits in his second attempt to win his 13th.
The Nationals are still 3 1/2 games ahead of Atlanta in the NL East. The Braves won on Thursday afternoon and will begin a four-game series in Washington on Friday night.
Michael Morse had two RBIs for the Nationals.
NOTES: Washington activated RHP Drew Storen from the disabled list. He hadn't pitched this season due to April surgery to remove bone chips from his right elbow. Storen pitched a scoreless ninth. ... OF Rick Ankiel was designated for assignment. C Jhonatan Solano was placed on the disabled list with a strained oblique muscle and C Sandy Leon was recalled from Double-A Harrisburg. HOOVER, Ala. (AP) ? Nick Saban said one option to address the Penn State tragedy might be a ticket tax on athletic events and giving the proceeds to child abuse funds.
The Alabama coach said the priority should be the same as in disciplining a player: Try to produce some good from a negative situation.
Longtime Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky was convicted last month of sexually abusing 10 boys, sometimes on campus.
"This is a very, very criminal situation that probably reflects poorly on a lot of folks," Saban told a small group of reporters before speaking at Southeastern Conference media days. "It's probably too almost raw to really have a feeling that I can express. I think that what we all should probably be thinking a little bit more about is what do we want to be the outcome of this? Something that's a win-win type thing, for kids in the future, the people that are there now, the players that are there now.
"Maybe they ought to tax all the tickets that they sell on athletics and give the proceeds to some child abuse organization. Or something like that, rather than worrying about some punishment that is really going to have no positive affect on anything."
The Alabama coach didn't go into details of how a tax would be implemented. He stressed his comments had to do more with philosophy than a real recommendation.
"I probably shouldn't have said that. I'm just a regular old coach," Saban said. "I worry about what they do on third down. A lot of times we do the same thing with players. Everybody's always worried about what's the punishment? The way I try to always look at it is, what's the outcome? What outcome do we want? Sometimes I even say that to the player, what outcome do you want? Do you want to graduate from school? Do you want to play in the NFL some day? If that's the outcome that you want, this behavior is not becoming of that. So what do we need to do to make it better?"
A report said university officials, including former football coach Joe Paterno, concealed child sex abuse allegations against Sandusky more than a decade ago to avoid bad publicity.
Saban, who has led the Crimson Tide to two national titles in the past three seasons, also said any perception that football coaches wield too much power doesn't apply at Alabama. Saban, however, has been described as the most powerful man in sports.
He also said he has faith that Alabama tries "to promote the moral obligation that we all have to protect other folks."
"I can't speak for everybody, but I can speak for the University of Alabama," he said. "I think if we had any kind of issue it would not be my decision as to what we did. It would be a bigger decision than me, and I would want it to be that way. I have total faith, trust and confidence in (university system Chancellor Robert) Witt, that we would make the decisions with the utmost honesty and integrity and sort of moral ethics as we possibly could.
"Everybody has a responsibility and obligation to represent their institution that way, and I believe in that."

Cloud gaming has been embraced as a liberator for gamers who had been entangled in the thorns of conventional gaming. Contrarily, if one looks at the potentially darker side of the cloud, a thought-provoking viewpoint can be perceived which, to some extent, may amaze readers.
First off, in?cloud gaming?everything is done through the cloud. Even though this clause is seen as an advantage by most analysts, the downside is that users unknowingly become cloud dependent. The menace of potential outages is also included in this drawback. So, if an Xbox network outage occurs, this will not just mean that there will be no online gaming for a consumer; it will mean no gaming at all. If the network goes down, players will not be able to do anything.
Resale value of games is another issue cited by prominent analysts. The fact that in conventional gaming players can buy a game, play it, and then sell it at a reasonable price is respectable. On the other hand, in cloud gaming, games are believed to stay at the same hyped prices, even though distribution costs are eliminated. Also, some customers wait for a game to mature so that it?s price might fall and they can buy it at reduced cost; this will not be possible with cloud gaming. From a business perspective, gaming companies will be in favor of fixed-price gaming, but from a user perspective this is a major drawback.
Another shortcoming of cloud gaming originates from a ?what if? scenario ? what if big gaming companies teamed up and hiked up all the prices. Painting a wider imaginative picture, it can also be alleged that maybe these gaming giants are just waiting for consumers to migrate to the cloud so that once the majority of consumers are on the cloud, these companies could increase the prices and no one will be able to do anything about it. A worthy analogy can be made by looking at the cellphone industry. Consumers do not really control the services they get, and switching to other networks is surely not the best option for them.
At the moment, cloud gaming is a mouth wateringly great option for gamers to assemble on a particular platform. Moreover, the drawbacks of cloud gaming circle around hypothetical consequences and one can never be sure as to what will happen in the?future. Only time will tell if cloud gaming really is the best option for gamers or not.

Several years ago, I had tried Studying a Study and Testing a Test. This home study course seemed thorough but proved too daunting to me for light, after work recreation. Perhaps I?ll try again now that I have a better basic understanding from BTL.
I advanced to Gary Schwitzer?s?Covering Medical Research at the Association of Healthcare 
BTL has already paid off?it helped me understand the implications of the sensitivity and specificity data on Orasure?s new HIV test, OraQuick, which I discussed in my last post.
The text is broken down into bite-size, more readily digestible chapters, which also makes it easy to turn back to as a reference. I found the studies cited to be helpful in illustrating each point. There were only a couple of places where I stumbled, but was able to recoup and move on.
I particularly appreciated Dr. Zilberberg?s understanding and explicit acknowledgement that our patients are individuals, ?It is one thing for a clinician to ignore evidence willfully; it is entirely another to be a conscientious objector to what is known but not applicable to the individual in the office?Doctors need time, intellectual curiosity, and skills to conduct these individual-patient (also known as ?n of 1?) trials in their offices.? I was comforted by ?When someone brings an evidence-based guideline to you and insists that, unless you comply 95% of the time, you are providing less than great quality of care and you say, ?This guideline does not represent my patients,? you are actually not crazy.? After caring for patients for more than 30 years, I am well aware that not everyone patient follows the textbooks or responds to ?standard? treatments.
Zilberberg?s section on the limited thinking that has been instilled in us by false dichotomies is valuable, too. Our thinking and insight would be far richer if we focused on the possibility of their being more than a ?right? or a ?wrong? answer, a spectrum of possibilities.
For patients?excuse me, ?consumers? in the current favored jargon of administrators?there is a valuable section on context and a list of questions that should be considered before jumping into testing and invasive treatments. These questions are often glossed over by physicians, especially surgeons, in their discussions with patients.
Just as businesses can profit by consumers being hopelessly ?illiterate? at math,? we can become better consumers of medical care by increasing our literacy in that area.? In the area of financial literacy, fortunately we have Michelle Singletary, Jane Bryant Quinn and Elizabeth Warren to help us. (Wow! They?re all women. I wonder what the correlation is between gender and writing clearly about numbers?) Lately, I?ve been particularly impressed by Elizabeth Warren?s plain-speaking way of explaining the financial fiascos to mere mortals. Zilberberg?s Between the Lines does for statistics what Warren does for money.
And as those women?s lucid offerings help us to understand our finances, BTL provides a number of useful tools to help make statistics and understanding newspaper and journal articles accessible to lay and medical people alike. You don?t have to be a rocket scientist to gain from this book. Zilberberg?s approach is conversational, accessible, and quite humorous at times. Pick up a copy, and sharpen your understanding of medical news and consumer skills.
