Since my mathmatical skills are lacking, to say the least, I need to check in with you on something. Assuming Dali was 18 when all of this started (1982, I picked 18 because that seemed like an appropriate age for graffiti artists to have big dreams and the courage to try to fulfill them), he would be roughly 42 for the roleplay, correct?

Personally, I prefer playing only youngish girls. However, I am fine with playing guys of practically any age! I was asking because I could totally see myself giving Dali the age of 42 when the age of choice is, say, 65. I am simply that bad with math!

Well...since I don't really have too very many roleplays going on at the moment, and have a couple cravings of things to do, I figured I'd put up one of these threads.

I'm not looking for too much, just someone who might be able to post frequently and give me good posts! And I promise I can do the same..

Self help is a billion dollar industry with readers from both sex, different ages and various countries. Many of the readers have a library of self help information at home.

It?s human nature that people want success and improvement. They want to stand out from their peers and get recognition.

Nearly everything one does is related to winning and becoming a better person. Think back to when you were kids. You would try to do things better and quicker than the other kid to get praise from your parents or teachers.

With everything we do, deep down in our hearts, we want to do it better than other people. Even with things we buy and own.

Have you ever wanted to buy a new cell phone, a better car or want a better job because someone you know has one? We all want to be better than the rest. The only exception is probably our kids. Who we all want our children to be better than ourselves.

This is what feeds the self help industry. It is why there are so many topics on personal development from making money to having lots of friends.

What we truly want is to have a happy and successful life.

Let?s talk about how we can achieve this goal. Imagine that you?re on your death bed and are looking back on your life. What will make you think that you have no regrets with your life?

Will it be because you have lots of money in the bank?

Having a highly-paid job in a respectable company?

Had great times with your friends drinking and sharing stories?

Being envied by your relatives and friends for living in a luxurious house with a cool car?

Take some time and really think about this. Write down what you think is most important to you so that before you shut your eyes forever, you?ll be glad what you have done and achieved in life.

This exercise will be an eye-opener. You may find that money is not the answer to your happiness. All the big houses, fancy sports car, latest gadgets and social status may not matter at all.

What matters is that you were happy for most of your life and you have made the people that are close to you happy as well. You have shared your joys and sorrows with them and have protected them when needed.

Once you?ve written down what matters to you the most, your focus in life should be to realize it immediately, taking any actions that will give you that satisfaction.

Life is about achieving your goals that you?ve set and enjoy the process as well. Your aim is to be happy and make those close to you happy as well.

If your goal is to live in a 2 million dollar mansion, drive a Mercedes, provide the best education for your kids and becoming the director of the company you?re working for, by all means go for it.

Read as many self help books as you can. Take time out to study and work twice as hard to achieve what you want. Persist and laugh at any thoughts of giving up.

However, the key to having a happy and successful life does not depend on achieving these goals, but to enjoy the process and your life.

While you want to work towards being promoted by your company and get a salary increase, you should not neglect your family, relatives or friends.

If you have kids, make sure you spend time with them. Coming home from work, spend time with your spouse and have a laugh together sharing stories. Give them a surprise now and then and go out together more.

Before going to bed, you need to say to yourself that you enjoyed the day and are happy with what you have done within the last 16 hours.

Now imagine that you?re on your death bed again and are looking back on your life. If you?ve achieved the goals which you have set, then hurray. Get the champagne out before you rest for good.

But if you haven?t managed to achieve your goals, you should still be happy and consider yourself a success. This is because you have not neglected what matters to you most while you were working on your life?s ambition.

You still enjoyed your life every day and have made those you care about, happy as well. You can safely say that you have lived your life and your success is by no means inferior to the person who has achieved more than you. At the end of the day, being happy is what matters most.

Rich and famous people are not necessarily happy. Some are sad and have even ended their own lives. You can decide on what type of life you want to live. You can either decide to be happy every day for the rest of your life or think that happiness will come only when you have reached your goals.

Reading self help books will work wonders on improving your life. One of the common themes of all self improvement advice is that you need to think positive and be happy. This is the essence of ?The Law of Attraction? and this is so true. The only thing that is stopping you is to acknowledge this and start taking action.

Bosnia?s lesson for Syrian slaughter

Twenty years ago, Suada Dilberovic and Olga Sucic were shot and killed in Sarajevo. They were the shots heard around the world and they started the Bosnian War.

I covered that war, and many colleagues are gathering in Sarajevo now to commemorate what took hundreds of thousands of lives, left so many more wounded, and created millions of refugees. This was the war that introduced us to the term "ethnic cleansing."

The dominant Balkan power at the time, Serbia wanted to keep Yugoslavia together, and failing that, to carve out ethnically pure areas in the breakaway states to create a Greater Serbia. It was a horrible fantasy that sought to destroy an ethnically mixed, intermarried community that had lived peacefully and progressively together in Bosnia.

This war was defining for the region, for the world and for those of us who covered it. We witnessed the heroic resistance of a population under siege and shelling and sniping for nearly four years. We learned the pain of watching men, women and children brutally slaughtered. These were the non-combatants, casually targeted in the crosshairs of the sniper's rifle, blown apart by mortar shells when they went to collect water, bread, fuel or even heading to school.

We learned the bitter cynicism of the international community that refused for some time to intervene, the United States and its allies finding every which way, and every tortured rhetorical device -- including refusing to use the word genocide -- to avoid getting off the sidelines.

I will never forget going to the funerals, one for a little girl called Almedina. Sarajevo had run short of everything even the letter "A" so Almedina's grave marker could not be spelled correctly. I will never forget the mothers and fathers who would try to brave the siege around Sarajevo airport, then try to make a dash to the other side where in one village they could buy or scrounge some fresh fruit or vegetables, anything to complement the meager rations and dried food the humanitarian airlift would bring. The night I was out there, a father managed to find a single apple for his child. For that he had risked his life.

On Friday more than 11,000 empty chairs will be arranged in silent poignant and powerful memory of Sarajevo's war dead. Along with the citizens of Sarajevo and other besieged Bosnian towns and villages, many of our colleagues were killed and wounded, including ABC's David Kaplan.

And who will ever forget the death camps, the skeletal prisoners who evoked the terrible crimes of World War II? But this was at the end of the 20th century. This was the satellite age. We were there and we reported the story day in and day out, week after week, month...year after year. This was the era of "never again" and it was happening again -- ethnic cleansing and genocide here in our own backyard, and on our watch. We fought back with all the power of our media. For me, Bosnia was where I learned about the truth. Horrified when the do-nothing crowd suggested I was taking sides, or losing my objectivity, I was forced to confront this charge, and examine our Golden Rule.

Here in Bosnia I determined that in the face of unspeakable crimes and the most serious violations of international humanitarian order, there is no moral equivalence, no blurring the line between victim and aggressor.

Objectivity means giving all sides a fair hearing. It does not mean drawing a false moral equivalence. In this case there is no one-hand-or-the other. And anyone who seeks to hide under that calumny is not just a liar, but an accessory, in this case to genocide.

I refused. It is the lesson of my lifetime.

As we all know, tens of thousands of deaths later including at Srebrenica in the summer of 1995, the worst massacre in Europe since World War Two, the U.S. finally intervened with NATO allies, ended the war and launched the peace that holds to this day. No country, no crisis, is the same. Of course Syria is not Bosnia, nor is it Libya, but in Syria today a heavily armed military is besieging and slaughtering ordinary civilians and outgunned rebels too as the state tries to crush an uprising.

Just like in Bosnia, the Syrian rebels/opposition have been denied the right to self defense, for fear of "accelerating the conflict on the ground and making it worse." Just like in Bosnia when the U.S. and its allies said they could not intervene "because it's a civil war and all sides are equally guilty," (although that was not the case as there was a clear aggressor) in Syria today they say they "don't know who to help, who to arm, the opposition is fragmented."

The lesson of Bosnia is that our democratic and free world which seeks to uphold the highest values bestowed on humankind, could no longer watch as ordinary civilians were butchered. It's a lesson that took too long to implement, and the peace is not perfect, but at least the killing stopped.

Psychological Sabotage and Monetary Decision Making: Self ...

At one time or another everyone makes an unsound decision. We can improve our decisions by examining what led us in the wrong direction, which often leads us to discover that it?s our own psychological sabotage which led us astray. In other words, if we increase self-awareness by examining our decisions, then sounder decisions will ensue. Sounds pretty simple, but it requires understanding the underpinnings of our psychology. Were these faulty decisions based on buried habits? Family matters? Past mistakes? Do we use mental short cuts or set our goals too high or too low? Do we draw on examples that don?t really apply to us?

All of these elements effect our decision making process. And in regard to monetary decision making, they can cause over or under confidence, create social pressure, and cause us to act in an economically self-sabotaging way, causing guilt and even shame. We don?t take the time to understand our goals and our feelings, and we let unpleasant feelings or circumstances pull us in a direction that may not be the best.

Money is an area of life that?s often stressful. We need more, we have too little, we want more, we can?t reign in our spending, we have unexpected expenses, our investing is made with too little awareness or on impulse. We procrastinate on assessment of options, or we don?t follow through. Self-awareness will help us to attract wealth and financial stability, by allowing us to analyze and recognize our financial goals and stop ourselves from over or under reacting.

A good example of psychological sabotage is the volatile stock market. Investors over-react, sell or buy impulsively. Acting first and thinking later can be a financial disaster.

Self-awareness is based on understanding and analyzing our needs and desires, and then taking action rather than procrastinating, in order to achieve them. Our beliefs stimulate and effect our actions.

In regard to monetary self-sabotage, the best way to avoid it is to look at the psychological reasons we may not believe you can succeed. Do you think it?s impossible or difficult to attract wealth? Do you believe that all decisions should be made without weighing the options and consequences? Are you all about the moment, with little regard to the future? And of course, why do you feel this way? Did a parent or sibling tell you that you weren?t ?good? with money? Do you feel unworthy of having investments? Does it seem too ?hard? to understand the ins and outs of investing or the fluctuations in the marketplace? Most importantly of all, what do you really want to achieve this year, and how are you going to make that happen?

Becoming self-aware in regard to monetary decision making means you?ll need to ask yourself these questions, in financial terms.

Instead of justifying your limitations, set up an action plan. Write down your financial goals, and review them, consistently. Seeing where you are within the framework of reaching financial goals will effectively excise the sabotage. You can?t be organized and focused and at the same time be unaware of any negativity that you?re bringing to the financial table.

Setting goals for your financial future will also help you to overcome procrastination and be more productive, too. Making decisions based on clear thinking will follow.

In empirical terms, this kind of self-awareness and goal setting will help you to stop spending too much and saving too little, or conversely, clinging to a small nest egg instead of investing prudently, or thinking outside the box in regard to business and financial goals.

Sure, it?s easier to fall into the same old self-sabotage traps, and tell yourself it?s too difficult to make an informed decision or plan your financial future. But long term, you?ll see goals realized and monetary peace of mind.

Small Business Marketing Idea ? Stop Making Your Ads Invisible

In this age of advertising overload? where people are being bombarded by hundreds of messages a day? having your advertising blend in with other ads is the last thing you want to do. It?s just too easy for a potential customer to overlook your ?camouflaged? ad. Yet camouflaging their ads is exactly what most businesses do. They follow exactly what everyone else is doing.

One of the primary ways most businesses market themselves is through the use of display ads in newspapers, magazines, or yellow pages. A display ad is simply an advertisement in a box that could be any dimension, but is determined by the standard sizes for a particular media. In addition to having ads that blend in, almost all display ads are being done all wrong. At the very top of the ad is the business name, or logo. Under that they have bullets highlighting features of their business followed by contact information.

First of all, never waste the top of an ad with your business name or logo.

While this may sound harsh, customers just don?t care about you yet. All they care about is what you can do for them. So tell them up front! Use a powerful headline to capture their interest.

And while the bulleted feature list does give the reader information about what services you offer, just about every other ad has the exact same information. These bullets don?t tell potential customers how you stand out from everyone else. Give the reader benefits of going to your small business versus going somewhere else. Even if there are no real differences, just pointing out the benefits of using your business is different than anyone else is doing.

And finally, don?t just put your phone number at the bottom. Give readers a call to action and include some way you can track that they came to your store through this ad. Use something like: ?Bring this ad in today for a free month of mailbox service.? Then keep track of these results so you know how effective your advertising is.

Improving your display ads and all of your marketing lets you build the kind of business you want. With effective marketing you can bring in not only more customers, but the kind of customers who don?t consider price to be the most important thing.

ALAMEDA, Calif (AP) ? A Coast Guard cutter returned to port Monday after rescuing two injured members of a racing crew whose yacht was smashed by a giant wave in the Pacific Ocean during an around-the world race.

The ship docked at Coast Guard Island in Alameda around 3 p.m. Monday, a day after it plucked two British crew members from the Geraldton Western Australia about 400 miles west of San Francisco.

Jane Hitchens, 50, and Nik Brbora, 29, slowly walked off the Coast Guard ship and waved to reporters before they were put on stretchers and taken to a hospital in separate ambulances.

Hitchens, a doctor from Kent, England, may have suffered broken ribs, while Brbora, a software engineer from London, may have suffered a sprained pelvis, race spokeswoman Dee-Dee Taft said. It was unclear whether they would be able to return to the race, when it resumes in less than two weeks.

The two crew members were hurt Sunday when a huge wave smashed over their 68-foot yacht's stern with such force that it carried away the boat's steering wheel and knocked the crew about like bowling pins.

The crew managed to quickly replace the steering wheel with a tiller and got the yacht under control by pulling down "the remains of our main sail" and raising a much smaller "storm jib," slowing the boat's progress considerably, captain Juan Coetzer told race organizers in comments posted online.

"The sea was alive with rage," Coetzer said. "Then at our watch change, just before the sun came up (Saturday), a monstrous foaming swell broke over our stern."

The wave pushed the helmsman Mark Burkes into the steering wheel and its pedestal in gale-force winds of more than 50 knots.

"The water had so much force in it that it pushed Mark into the helm, snapping the pedestal clean off," Coetzer reported. "We had no steering and crew were falling all over the boat."

After the Coast Guard removed the two injured members Sunday, the remaining 11 sailors decided to press on to finish the longest leg of the global race. They were expected to reach the Port of Oakland early Tuesday and become the last of 10 boats to complete a 5,680-mile trek across the Pacific.

"We were making good, good speed," Coetzer said of conditions before the accident, "surfing at 15 - 20 knots." The yacht is now traveling at about half that speed

Assistant race director Justin Taylor, a two-time skipper in the contest, said that crews "drill" for such an event as losing a steering wheel in heavy seas and that the repair took a matter of minutes.

"Their training kicked in," Taylor said.

Taylor said typically the hardest leg of the race is crossing the North Atlantic.

"To get this close to the finish is a tough one to swallow," Taylor said. "I'm disappointed for them."

The U.S. Coast Guard sent out a long-range HC-130 Hercules aircraft on Saturday for a rescue effort, but the rough seas and strong winds thwarted an attempt to lower rescuers. Instead, medical supplies were dropped on board and a cutter dispatched to meet the stricken vessel.

Two others who suffered minor injuries decided to continue sailing, Taft said. Max Wilson, 62, a farmer from Queensland, Australia, also may have suffered broken ribs, and Burkes, 47, the helmsman at the time, sustained a back injury.

The crew planned to fix the yacht and continue two more legs of the race, which began in Southhampton in England and will finish there July 22 after nearly a year at sea. The Geraldton Western Australia is among 10 identical yachts participating in the race. The nine other yachts made it in safely.

The first boat arrived Friday at Jack London Square in Oakland, Calif., where the entire fleet is expected to stay until April 14 to make repairs, restock, rest and take part in a sailboat show before embarking for Panama.
